Christmas is less than a month away and we are excitedly waiting to celebrate our first one with Sam! Last Christmas we were ten weeks pregnant with him, I had just had emergency abdominal surgery the week prior, and all we could think about was how we hoped we would have this baby there with us next year. I’ve always loved everything about the holiday season. The lights, the music, trees all decorated, it really is the most wonderful time of the year. But with a baby? I feel like I’m experiencing everything as a child all over again! Sam’s still too little too understand everything, but the thought of Christmases to come is thrilling.
Even though Sam will only be just over five months, you can bet we’re going all out for his first Christmas! He already has several presents wrapped under the tree from us, with a few more on the way. We got him mostly toys but I tried to make sure that the things we got him were items he would be able to use and enjoy for a while, as well as a few things he needs. I know that when my husband and I were thinking of things to buy, as well as a list of things to give to family to get him, it was tough! Some of the things we either bought him or put on his Christmas list are:
- Plastic bowls, plates and utensils. He’ll be starting solids in January so they’re absolutely something that will be used frequently. I found plates with suction cups on the bottom so that baby can’t try and throw them as soon as they get the chance. Genius! Bowls like these are fantastic and a good price!
- A Vtech walker- Sam has recently taken a liking to standing up and insists on doing it constantly. He’s not strong enough to hold himself up on his own yet but is getting pretty good at it when holding on to our fingers, which means it’s only a matter of time before he can do it by himself. The walker is perfect because it can start out stationary for him to play with all of the little knick knacks, and then he’ll be able to pull himself up on it once he is stronger, and eventually it’ll assist him in the early walking days. I think it’ll be a big hit with him! You can find the walker we bought here.
- Books- my husband and I try to make it a point to read to Sam as often as possible. It’s so important to foster a love for reading from an early age! We have a favorite author of board books that we love to read. Her name is Sandra Boynton and she writes simple, fun stories about dogs, monsters, dancing, etc, all with cute characters. Sam will definitely be getting at least one of her books to add to his collection!
- Bath toys- this kid LOVES the water. Whether it’s in the tub or shower he’s always enjoyed it, so I got him some plastic bath books (see? Really pushing the reading haha) and put a couple other toys on his Christmas list.
And there you have it, a few easy, somewhat inexpensive gift ideas that could work for most babies. If you’re looking for more ideas feel free to comment or send me a private message, I’d love to help you out!
